Bengaluru: A bomb threat email sent to the department of space and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters triggered a high-alert security response before police investigations revealed it to be a hoax. Investigation led officers to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, where the accused behind the email was traced.The accused, Nishant Tyagi, 36, is an SSLC dropout, who completed a BA through distance learning. The threat email, warning of a bomb blast, was received Thursday by ISRO. A comprehensive search was carried out, but officers found no explosives.Following a complaint by the administrative officer of ISRO headquarters, Sanjaynagar police registered a case and a special team was formed by the deputy commissioner of police (North), Babasab Nemagoud, for investigation.Relying on technical analysis, police travelled to Ghaziabad Thursday night and traced the accused at his house. The device used to send the email has been seized and will be sent for forensic examination.Police found that Tyagi is suffering from mental illness and are verifying his medical history. Based on the reports, police will decide whether to arrest and bring him to the city or serve him a notice, asking him to appear before Sanjaynagar police.A senior officer said Tyagi had sent similar threatening emails to other states, and cases have been registered against him.
