Gurgaon: After a largely dry Monday, the city is likely to witness an intense spell of monsoon rain from Tuesday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed the district under an orange alert for Tuesday and Wednesday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.The city recorded a maximum temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius at the KVK automatic weather station, up from 34.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature rose from 25.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday to 27.4 degrees Celsius on Monday. According to IMD observations, parts of the city, including Udyog Vihar, IFFCO Chowk and Rajiv Chowk, received a brief spell of light rain around 5.30pm on Monday.According to the district-wise weather warning issued by Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, heavy rain is expected over Gurgaon on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather department said conditions are becoming favourable for widespread showers as monsoon activity intensifies over the region.IMD has cautioned that the heavy spell could trigger waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, reduced visibility and localised flooding, particularly in urban centres such as Gurgaon, which has witnessed repeated inundation and long traffic snarls during previous monsoon spells.The district-wise forecast indicates that northern and southern Haryana districts, including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Ambala and Yamunanagar, are likely to receive widespread rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. In contrast, western districts are expected to receive comparatively lighter and more scattered showers.Rainfall activity is expected to weaken from Thursday (July 30), with no heavy rain warning issued for Gurgaon. By Friday (July 31), only isolated showers are likely over the district.With a heavy spell forecast over the next 48 hours, civic agencies are expected to keep a close watch on waterlogging-prone locations, major traffic intersections and vulnerable infrastructure. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and exercise caution while driving through inundation-prone stretches.
