Chennai: Raising the issue of legislative decorum, former chief minister and MLA O Panneerselvam on Friday urged assembly speaker J C D Prabhakar to accord proper dignity and protocol to leader of the opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin inside the House.During the ongoing assembly session, Panneerselvam drew attention to parliamentary conventions, noting that the leader of the opposition holds an equivalent stature to cabinet ministers.“The speaker has been in the assembly since the era of M G Ramachandran and is fully aware of House traditions. While opposition leaders must be given adequate time to articulate their views, presently the leader of the opposition is forced to stand up and sit down multiple times just to register his points. This is unfortunate, and his position must be accorded the due respect it commands,” Panneerselvam stressed, pointing towards interruptions during Udhayanidhi’s speeches.Responding to Panneerselvam, speaker J C D Prabhakar said that he would take care of the issue.
