Guwahati: Even as flood-battered Assam battles to restore normalcy, fresh heavy rain threatens to deepen its woes.IMD officials said moisture from the Bay of Bengal and an upper-air cyclonic circulation over central Assam, extending 1.5 km above mean sea level, could trigger significant rainfall across the northeast over the next week.An IMD release issued on Thursday predicted fairly widespread to widespread rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, reaching 50 kmph, over Arunachal Pradesh until Aug 2 and Assam and Meghalaya until Aug 4.Similar conditions are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on July 31 and from Aug 3 to 5.Isolated heavy rain is likely over Arunachal from Aug 1 to 5; Assam and Meghalaya from July 31 to Aug 5; and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura until Aug 5. Arunachal may also receive isolated very heavy rain on July 31.IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Arunachal on Friday. Heavy rain is also likely at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur.
