IMD forecasts rainfall in state on Nov 4, 5

Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall forecast for Goa on Nov 4 and 5, forecasting light thundershowers and rainfall at isolated places over the ghats and adjoining areas of North Goa and Kushavati district. The forecast comes amid the development of multiple weather systems over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The IMD has attributed the rainfall to a trough extending from the east-central Arabian Sea along the Maharashtra coast to a cyclonic circulation associated with a low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh. The trough passes across Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha at around 1.5km above mean sea level.Meanwhile, the remnant of cyclone Arnab has weakened into a low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh, with its associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5km above mean sea level. However, the IMD said this phenomenon does not impact the Goa coast.Another low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal around Oct 31 before moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.Meanwhile, weather observations on Oct 30 showed maximum temperatures of 33.5°C in Panaji and 33.2°C in Mormugao, both above normal. Relative humidity stood at 90% and 92%, respectively. Neither observatory recorded rainfall during the preceding 24 hours.
