Chennai: The Centre for Integrative Biology and Systems Medicine (IBSE) at IIT Madras will organise an international symposium on microbiomes from Feb 11 to 13, 2027.Titled ‘Microbiomes in Environment, Health and Beyond,’ the three-day symposium will bring together researchers and speakers from India and abroad to discuss microbial omics in human, gut and environmental microbiomes, as well as computational approaches to analysing the data. The sessions will cover microbial ecology and evolution; skin, soil, marine and built-environment microbiomes; multi-omics, bioinformatics and mathematical modelling; phage-host dynamics; and antimicrobial resistance. The programme will also feature poster presentations, flash talks and a panel discussion, providing participants with opportunities to exchange ideas and engage with researchers working across different areas of microbiome science. The study of microbial communities, or microbiomes, has wide-ranging applications in human health, agriculture, animal husbandry, waste treatment, bioremediation and environmental monitoring.
