Guwahati: Students and scholars at IIT-Guwahati gathered on campus for a special ‘Sundays on Cycle’ event, with Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Raksha Khadse joining in to mark India’s selection as the host country for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.The event was hosted by the university and SAI Guwahati. Khadse cycled alongside students to promote sports and fitness on a rainy Sunday morning on the sprawling campus.The event celebrated India’s selection as the host of the Commonwealth Games 2030, a development expected to strengthen India’s global sporting profile, with a spotlight on the northeast.Olympians and Commonwealth Games medallists Jayanta Talukdar and Sushila Devi Likmabam attended the event, along with IIT-G director Prof. Devendra Jalihal. Khadse underlined the role of initiatives like ‘Sundays on Cycle’ in building a sports-loving and fitness-conscious nation.“From cycling through the beautiful campus to celebrating the spirit of fitness, unity, and sporting ambition, it reflected the energy of a new India moving confidently towards Commonwealth Games 2030,” Khadse said in a social media post.The SAI’s regional centre in Guwahati also ran ‘The Commonwealth Games Open Quiz’ on its social media platforms and organised ‘The Commonwealth Games Themed Drawing Competition’ at city schools. Winners of both contests were felicitated by the guests.
