JAISALMER: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday concluded the week-long Exercise ROTOR CLAP III at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. The exercise, themed “Counter-UAS” (Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems), brought together helicopter units from across the IAF to validate operational concepts against emerging aerial threats and enhance combat preparedness in a dynamic battlefield environment. The exercise focused on strengthening the operational capabilities of the IAF’s helicopter fleet in dealing with evolving threats posed by unmanned aerial systems. It also provided an opportunity to assess tactics, techniques and procedures for integrated helicopter operations in realistic combat scenarios.During the exercise, nearly all major helicopter platforms of the Indian Air Force participated and demonstrated their combat capabilities. The helicopters carried out a series of tactical missions, including precision strikes, battlefield support, reconnaissance, troop insertion, casualty evacuation, and coordinated operations designed to counter aerial and ground-based threats. The week-long drills enabled aircrew and operational units to validate mission planning, coordination, rapid response, and interoperability under simulated combat conditions. The exercise also emphasized seamless coordination between different helicopter platforms while operating in challenging desert terrain. The Pokhran Field Firing Range, one of India’s premier military training areas, provided an ideal environment for conducting live operational drills and evaluating the effectiveness of helicopter missions against modern battlefield challenges, including the growing threat of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles.Exercise ROTOR CLAP III reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s commitment to maintaining a high state of operational readiness and adapting to emerging security challenges. By testing operational concepts and refining combat procedures in a realistic environment, the exercise has further strengthened the IAF’s capability to respond swiftly and effectively to future contingencies. The successful completion of the exercise highlights the Indian Air Force’s continued focus on enhancing joint operational effectiveness, improving mission preparedness, and ensuring that its helicopter fleet remains capable of meeting the demands of modern warfare, particularly in counter-UAS operations.
