Hut dwellers first priority in Indiramma housing Ph-2: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday said first priority will be given to the poor living in huts for sanction of Indiramma Indlu (houses) under the second phase of the scheme, and that other applications will be considered as the second and following options. The minister directed officials to take up a comprehensive survey on a war footing to identify huts across every village, ward, and municipality in the state. They were instructed to verify existing govt data through field-level checks, assess ground realities, and prepare a list of eligible beneficiaries.

“Approximately 75,000 people across the state had applied during the Praja Palana programme claiming to be living in huts. The officials should personally examine these applications, make field visits and identify the genuinely eligible candidates,” Srinivasa Reddy said during a teleconference with housing department officials.Ponguleti also announced that families living in huts who had not previously applied during Praja Palana or other programmes could still submit applications at their local MPDO office. The govt is also implementing a roof replacement scheme for the poor. As part of the second phase, 50,000 houses across the state — allocated at a rate of 500 houses per assembly constituency — will be selected under this scheme. Families living under roofs made of tarpaulin sheets, tin sheets, or stone slabs—or in hazardous roofing conditions—despite having strong walls and foundations, will be identified and provided financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh for the construction of an RCC slab roof, the minister said.
