Pune: Senior citizens and persons with disabilities falling in the unmapped and logical discrepancy categories, who cannot attend SIR hearings, can submit documents through their representatives. Election officials will visit their homes to collect the papers if the representatives too can’t be present, divisional commissioner and electoral roll observer Sheetal Teli-Ugale said on Thursday.Speaking at a review meeting with political party representatives, she directed officials to select hearing venues convenient for voters and publish the schedule on the website after notices are generated through the portal. She appealed to political parties to cooperate with the administration to ensure every eligible voter is included in the final roll.EROs and AEROs should prepare a hearing schedule and strictly adhere to it, she added. Officials should also identify discrepancies in the rolls and ensure that notices reach the voters.“Names of deceased, shifted and duplicate voters continue to remain in electoral rolls for years. A comprehensive electoral roll will be prepared under this programme,” Teli-Ugale said.Of the 90.80 lakh voters on the rolls before SIR, around 28 lakh have been included in the absent, shifted, dead and duplicate list, she said. The final electoral roll will be published on Nov 4.Teli-Ugale said discrepancies in a voter’s name, address or photograph in the draft roll could be corrected through the BLO’s app. Political parties should tell voters to keep the required documents ready for hearings, while booth- level agents should verify the draft rolls.Officials have been instructed to conduct hearings impartially, guide voters courteously and securely preserve all hearing-related records. They should not succumb to any inducement, she said.A deceased person’s name won’t be deleted without evidence, officials should ensure that the names of important persons in each of the district’s 21 assembly constituencies are included in the draft rolls and there is greater emphasis placed on SVEEP activities for new voter registration.Officials were told to maintain communication with elected representatives and resolve difficulties through discussion. Voters living under one roof must are assigned to the same polling station.MLA Bapusaheb Pathare suggested making draft rolls available polling-stationwise and holding hearings in large housing societies to make the process easier.Deputy collector Minal Kalaskar said meetings with political parties were held every week. She made a presentation of the draft roll, ASDD list, pre-SIR electorate and manpower deployed for the exercise.
