Surat: Sarathana police have arrested a 21-year-old man and detained a 17-year-old minor for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 15-year-old boy by subjecting him to verbal abuse, mental harassment and threats over damage to a rented car.According to police, the deceased had hired a hatchback through the accused, Sagar Boliya (21), and the minor. After the vehicle was damaged, the accused allegedly threatened the boy and demanded payment for the loss. The victim paid Rs 70,000 in instalments. However, the accused allegedly continued to abuse and threaten him, demanding additional money and warning him that he would be killed.The Class X student died by suicide on Saturday after consuming a poisonous substance. Following the incident, his father lodged a complaint against the accused.During the investigation, police found that Boliya and the minor had threatened and physically assaulted the victim. Based on the complaint and investigation, Boliya was arrested while the 17-year-old was detained.Police said Boliya, who works as a driver, has a criminal history and had previously been booked in four cases at Sarathana police station. He was also externed from Surat city and Surat rural areas for one year under an order issued in July 2025.
