Shimla: Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal on Saturday credited the legal battle initiated by the previous BJP state govt led by Prem Kumar Dhumal and the intervention of the Modi govt at the Centre for the Supreme Court verdict securing the state’s 7.19% share in Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) power projects.Welcoming the Nov 6 verdict, Bindal said the Supreme Court had recognised Himachal’s 7.19% share on Sept 27, 2011, during Dhumal’s tenure. He said the Centre’s cashless settlement formula, accepted by the court, would ensure 11,973 million units of electricity for the state against outstanding dues assessed at 13,066 million units.Punjab and Haryana will supply around 598 million units annually during October-March over the next 20 years, he said.Questioning chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s claims of credit, Bindal asked why the dues had remained unsettled for years after the 2011 verdict. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar for facilitating the settlement. On the Kishau Dam project, Bindal credited the Centre for approving 90% funding. He accused Sukhu of compromising the interests of Sirmaur farmers by allocating their share of water to Delhi and Rajasthan.
