Helium cylinder explosion injures four near GSM mall

Hyderabad: Four persons suffered injuries when a helium gas cylinder of a balloon seller exploded near GSM Mall in Miyapur on Saturday evening.According to Miyapur police, at around 4.30 pm, the helium cylinder exploded while the seller was filling gas into the balloons.Due to the explosion, an ice-cream vendor, Vivek Pal (19) of Chandanagar, who was standing near the balloon seller, suffered a severe leg injury. “Vivek’s right leg got severed from his thigh due to the explosion. He was shifted to a nearby hospital and his condition is stable,” Miyapur inspector N Jayaram said.Three others, Mullagani Janardhan, a private worker, Nandyala Danusha (16), a student, and V Sindhu Priya (25), a techie, who were standing nearby, suffered minor injuries and they are out of danger, the inspector said.The balloon seller also sustained an injury to his hand due to the explosion and he fled from the spot after the explosion. “We have dispatched a team to locate him,” the inspector said. Police registered a case under section 288 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) of the BNS and section 25 (b) of the Explosive Substances Act.
