Mapusa: The first spell of heavy pre-monsoon rain brought disruptions across Bardez taluka on Sunday. Rain with heavy winds led to tree felling, disrupting traffic, and widespread power outages.At Anjuna, intense downpour led to soil erosion, causing two electricity poles to tilt dangerously over the main road. One pole bent completely toward the thoroughfare, paralysing local traffic. Traffic police rushed to the scene to divert vehicles, while the electricity department deployed cranes to replace the damaged poles. As a precaution, power supply to the entire area was temporarily disconnected.At Nagoa, a massive mango tree crashed onto a parked car near Grand Morrod. No injuries were reported.The Mapusa fire station personnel were on their toes all afternoon, responding to multiple emergency calls. At Khorlim, a tree collapsed onto a culvert near ward number 18. Shortly after, another tree crashed onto the main road at Eligio Colony in Madel, Tivim, temporarily blocking commuters. Later in the afternoon, fire personnel rushed to Bambordem in Moira, where a ‘kazro’ (strychnine) tree crashed directly onto a residential house. Clear-up operations were taken up by the fire and emergency services across the affected sites.
