Lucknow: A Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court has taken exception to the dumping of garbage in the open along the roadside in front of Kabir Temple in Madiaon area and directed the Lucknow Municipal Commissioner to explore the possibility of shifting the garbage dumping site to an alternative location.The bench said that if feasible, measures should be taken to install a compactor at the site. The court directed the civic authorities to find and implement a permanent solution and, till then, adopt temporary measures to ensure the health and hygiene of people in the area. The matter has been listed for next hearing on Sept 30.A bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi passed the order on PIL filed by a local resident. The court observed that garbage being strewn along the roadside in such a manner was unacceptable and could adversely affect the health and hygiene of residents as well as passersby.During the hearing, the municipal corporation placed photographs before the court. After examining the photographs, the bench observed that the situation appeared to be worse than what had been stated in the petition.Municipal corporation’s counsel submitted that the garbage was not being dumped in a residential area but along the highway. The court, however, said that dumping garbage in such a manner near a road could not be accepted.
