HC rejects bail for 3 Myanmar nationals in Rohingya trafficking case

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has refused bail to three Myanmar nationals accused of trafficking Rohingya women into India under false marriage pretences. The court, in its order uploaded Saturday, noted the serious nature of the allegations and that key victims and witnesses have yet to testify.Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Bhuwan Goyal dismissed the appeals from Mohammad Usman, Shafi Alam and Rabi Ul Islam that challenged previous bail rejections by an NIA Special Court in 2024 and 2025. Their applications were rejected based on an FIR filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Jaipur. The defence argued that the accused were wrongfully implicated and spent over two years in custody. They claimed that statements from protected witnesses were recorded, suggesting that the trial could take a considerable amount of time, which warranted bail. However, the NIA’s Special Public Prosecutor, Sneh Deep Khyaliya, emphasised the severity of the allegations. He explained that the accused illegally trafficked Rohingya women, exploiting them with fake marriage offers and selling them afterwards. The prosecution also expressed concerns that, if released, the accused could flee or influence ongoing testimonies, as several crucial witnesses have yet to be heard.Given these considerations, the high court upheld the Special Court’s decision and dismissed the appeals, highlighting the serious allegations and the trial’s status.
