Times News NetworkJaipur: Rajasthan High Court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of a 72-year-old accused of alleged cheating of nearly Rs 41 lakh and criminal breach of trust in connection with investment in a hotel project.Justice Chandra Prakash Shrimali passed the order Wednesday which was uploaded on Thursday. The FIR was registered at Chitrakoot police station in Jaipur on March 23, 2026.The complainant alleged that she had invested Rs 40.75 lakh through Vidul Das Maheshwari, a financial broker, in a hotel/resort and spa project. She was allegedly promised a 20% share in profits and a position on the board of directors, but the commitments were not fulfilled.Appearing for the respondent, counsel Deepak Chauhan strongly opposed the anticipatory bail plea. “The matter could not be treated as a purely civil or commercial dispute as the allegations disclosed prima facie offences of cheating and criminal breach of trust,” he argued.He submitted that the petitioner had allegedly induced the complainant to part with a substantial amount by making assurances which were never honoured.“Four other cases of a similar nature were pending against the petitioner at different police stations and referred to several civil proceedings involving allegations of taking money from different persons and failing to repay it,” he argued.The defence, meanwhile, argued that the dispute was essentially commercial and referred to earlier notices and civil proceedings between the parties.
