Jaipur collector opens application windows for 116 vacant fair price shops

Jaipur: Jaipur district collectorate has restarted the licencing process for vacant fair price shops after earlier allotments were cancelled in 2023 and related court stays were cleared. “The exercise is intended to fill gaps in the public distribution system and improve transparency in the delivery of subsidised food grains and other essential commodities,” stated an official.Revised notifications cover 116 vacant shops in Jaipur city and district areas, with 119 shops listed for Jaipur Rural under Jaipur II. Applicants seeking rural allotments can obtain forms from Room Number 46 at District Supply Office, Jaipur II. A postal order of R 100 is required to collect the form.Officials said candidates who had applied during the 2023 cycle, before the stay order, need not begin from scratch. “They can re-verify or link their applications by producing the original fee receipts issued at that time. This provision is meant to protect earlier applicants while aligning the process with the revised notification,” an official said. The administration has also reiterated compliance conditions for licensees. Every fair price shop must display stock availability, the name of the licensee, and PDS commodity rates prominently on its exterior wall. Shops are expected to follow notified price norms and maintain accessible information for beneficiaries. The fresh allocation drive is significant for ration-card holders in underserved pockets, where vacant shops have delayed access to essential supplies. By reopening applications and tightening disclosure rules, the collectorate aims to make distribution more accountable, traceable, and locally accessible across Jaipur and Jaipur Rural areas over the coming months.
