Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court Thursday directed Jaipur Development Authority to remove encroachments along the New Sanganer Road stretch from Sodala to Gujar Ki Thadi within two months, rejecting the authority’s plea seeking five months to complete the exercise.The court also asked JDA to submit a compliance affidavit by Oct 6.A division bench of Justices Inderjeet Singh and Sandeep Taneja gave the directions while hearing a public interest litigation filed by Suresh Chand Rawat and others over alleged encroachments and illegal parking on the busy arterial road.Appearing for the petitioners, advocate Gitesh Joshi submitted that as per Jaipur Master Plan, the stretch from Sodala to Gujar Ki Thadi has a sanctioned width of 100 ft (30 metres), while roads within Vishwa Nagar are 30 ft wide. However, rampant encroachments and illegal parking have reduced the available road width to nearly 20 ft at several locations, causing severe traffic congestion and restricting access for residents.JDA’s counsel Amit Kuri submitted the affidavit filed by the authority, stating that the 2.4-km corridor requires a scientific survey using drone mapping, followed by verification with Master Plan and Zonal Development Plans before identifying encroachments. “JDA had already engaged a technical agency to conduct the survey and that verification, issuance of notices under Section 72 of the JDA Act, disposal of objections, obtaining police assistance and demolition drives would together require about five and a half months,” Kuri submitted.Despite the detailed action plan, the bench declined JDA’s request.The PIL seeks removal of illegal encroachments and parking obstructing the 100-ft road, restoration of 30-ft roads in Vishwa Nagar as per the approved layout plan, removal of unauthorised commercial activities and protection of public roads from further encroachment.
