Hyderabad: A local court convicted the gymnastics coach of a school in Miyapur under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) for raping a three-year-old girl on the school premises in 2019. The court also convicted the principal of the school for failing to take action in the case after coming to know of the incident.Miyapur police said that the gymnastics coach whisked the girl away to an isolated place on the school premises where he raped her and fled after committing the crime. Later, when the principal became aware of the matter, there was alleged inaction against the coach.Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s family, the police arrested both the accused. The special court for POCSO cases conducted trial and awarded the coach 20 years of rigorious imprisonment and sentenced the principal to three years of imprisonment.
