Gurgaon: The city continued to reel under intense heat on Sunday as maximum temperatures crossed 42 degrees Celsius at several locations, with India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist across Haryana till May 27.According to IMD’s Chandigarh centre, Gurgaon AWS recorded a maximum temperature of 41.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while Gurgaon KVK station recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius. NorthCap University station logged 43.1 degrees Celsius, among the highest readings in the NCR region.Night temperatures also remained high. Gurgaon KVK station recorded a minimum temperature of 27.5°C, while NorthCap University station recorded 26.7°C.The weather department said Haryana’s average maximum temperature rose by 1.7°C compared to Saturday and remained 2.5°C above normal. Sirsa was the hottest place in the state at 46°C, followed by Rohtak at 45.3°C and Bopani in Faridabad at 44.8°C.Neighbouring districts also recorded high temperatures on Sunday. Nuh logged 43.5°C, Jhajjar 42.3°C, Mahendragarh 42.5°C and Karnal 42.8°C.IMD has forecast a further rise of 2-4°C in maximum temperatures over the next four days. A fresh western disturbance expected from May 28 may lead to a dip of 3-5°C next week.The weather department has forecast heatwave to severe heatwave conditions at isolated places in Haryana between May 25 and May 27. Thunderstorms, lightning, dust storms and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at some places on May 28, 29 and 30. This is likely to offer some relief from the prolonged heat spell.Private weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya also said heatwave conditions are likely to continue across Delhi-NCR and Haryana till May 28, with daytime temperatures expected to remain between 43°C and 46°C.Despite the intense daytime heat, Haryana’s average minimum temperature declined by 0.8°C compared to the previous day.The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar district at 22.2°C. Rainfall activity remained limited, with Nuh receiving 2 mm of rainfall and Karnal’s Indri Rest House station recording 6.5 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours. Most districts remained dry.
