GURGAON: A major accident was averted in the upscale Sushant Lok Phase 1 area after a woman professor’s car plunged into a deep, unattended pit on Galleria Road, exposing glaring civic negligence. The incident occurred when the professor, who heads a department at private university, was returning home to Ridgewood Estate. As she drove along the busy stretch, her vehicle suddenly fell into a large pit dug in the middle of the road.Locals and passersby rushed to the spot and made strenuous efforts to pull her out safely. While she escaped without injuries, her car sustained significant damage in the fall.Residents alleged that the pit had been lying open for months without any barricading, warning signs, or lighting—turning a key road in one of Gurgaon’s poshest localities into a hazard zone. The professor has said she will file formal complaints with the police, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and the municipal corporation, holding authorities accountable for the lapse.
