Gurgaon: The city received 55mm of rain between Sept 4 and 10, 71% more than its normal weekly rainfall of 32.2mm.The city has remained marginally above normal for the monsoon season so far. Between June 1 and Sept 10, the city recorded 467.4mm of rainfall against the normal 452.2mm, a surplus of 3%.The excess rainfall in the city comes against a 45% rainfall deficit across Haryana, according to India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weekly weather report.The latest forecast indicates that the wet spell may not be over yet. IMD has forecast light to moderate rain at isolated places in the city on Sept 11, 12 and 13, with the district again included in the isolated rainfall forecast for Sept 14 and 15.The weather office has, however, not issued any weather warning for the district in the immediate forecast period. For the state, it has warned of the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places on Sept 14 and 15.The contrast with the rest of Haryana is significant. The state received 15.5mm of rain against a normal 28.2mm from Sept 4 to 10. Several districts recorded large deficits, including Sirsa, where rainfall was 100% below normal for the week, Jind (-97%), Hisar (-99%), Charkhi Dadri (-96%) and Bhiwani (-95%).Seasonally too, Haryana remained deficient, with 298.7mm of rainfall against a normal 392.8mm between June 1 and Sept 10, a deficit of 24%. Gurgaon was among the districts that bucked the statewide trend, along with Nuh and Palwal.The weekly report also recorded thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the first five days of the week, while heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places from Sept 4 to 7.On Sept 10, however, the past-24-hour district rainfall map showed “no rainfall recorded” in Gurgaon.
