Govt vehicle rams bike; 4-yr-old dead, parents, infant sister injured

Chennai: A four-year-old girl died, while her nine-month-old sister and parents were seriously injured in an accident near Walajabad on Sunday night.Police said Loganathan, 40, a resident of Pillaiyarpalayam in Kancheepuram, was travelling on a motorcycle with his wife Mahalakshmi, 38, their children — Samyuktha, 4, and an infant. The family was on their way to the Vallakottai Murugan temple.When they reached Muthialpet junction, a four-wheeler bearing a ‘govt’ sticker headed from Walajabad towards Kancheepuram collided head-on with their bike. In the impact, the parents and the children sustained severe injuries. Loganathan and Mahalakshmi suffered leg fractures.Samyuktha was found unconscious at the scene. Nearby residents rushed them to Kancheepuram govt hospital. After receiving first aid, all victims were referred to a govt hospital in Chennai.The children were admitted to Govt Children’s Hospital in Egmore, where they were undergoing treatment. However, Samyuktha succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning. Walajabad police registered a case of causing death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving and are investigating. Police are investigating whether the vehicle driver had dozed off.
