Govt recruitments done on merit: Mizoram CM

Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma on Saturday said govt recruitments are now being conducted transparently under the principle of “equality for all”, which has restored youths’ faith in the system.The CM was speaking at the passing out parade of the 70th batch of police constables at the Police Training School (PTS) in Thenzawl.Lalduhoma said the 275 police personnel standing in the parade were selected through a fair, competitive process purely on merit, without any political backing or favouritism from ministers or politicians.“We expect qualified personnel to deliver quality service to our state,” the CM said, adding that the govt is committed to efficiency and will reject unqualified candidates. He said scrutiny is not limited to new recruits but also extends to identifying underperforming personnel already in service.The CM said nations with an efficient police force enjoy peaceful societies. He stressed that good conduct and quality service from the police elevate the state’s image, reassure the public and build trust in the govt.Addressing the graduates, who completed 45 weeks of professional training at PTS, he said they were equipped to execute their duties confidently. He urged them to uphold justice without fear or favour while investigating crimes and enforcing laws. He said the govt’s core motto was to establish righteousness and uphold the rule of law.He also expressed concern over the historical loss of police personnel due to alcohol abuse during service and reminded the officers that physical fitness must remain a lifelong commitment beyond their training period. He added the govt would continue to modernise the police force to tackle emerging forms of crime.State director general of police (DGP) Sharad Agarwal congratulated the trainees on successfully completing their course and urged them to maintain strict self-discipline to keep their minds and bodies sharp.The graduating 70th batch comprises 275 personnel (249 males and 26 females). Home minister K Sapdanga also attended the event.
