Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar on Friday said the state govt had wasted the two and half years without completing the repairs to Medigadda. Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, the former MP said, “According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) river flow data on Friday morning, about 15,000 cusecs of water are flowing at Medigadda, while another 45,000 cusecs are flowing in the Pranahitha river at Kagaznagar. This means that around 4 TMCft of water is expected to pass through the barrage over the next 24 hours,” he said.He said the Centre had issued an advisory to all state govts regarding the impact of El Niño and advised them to use reservoir water sparingly. “Our state was also included in that warning. With rainfall declining, the summer of 2027 is expected to be severe. El Niño is likely to create a water crisis. However, the state govt appears to be non-serious. Instead of focusing on the impact of El Niño, ministers are busy throwing challenges and staging dramas,” Vinod said.He alleged that because of the Congress govt’s poor vision, water could not be stored at Medigadda and floodwater was being wasted downstream. “The repairs to Medigadda should have been completed within five months. However, even after two and a half years, nothing has happened. Had the motors at Kanapalli near Medigadda been switched on, the LMD would have been half full. If the govt continues to remain this negligent, there may not even be enough water for bathing next summer,” the former MP said.Vinod said that even by construction a temporary rubber dam or creating a sand bund, the Kannepalli pumps could be operated and stated that the NDSA has no authority to dictate the state’s decisions and had never stated that repairs to Medigadda should not be taken up. “At least now, in view of the likely impact of El Niño, Revanth Reddy should wake up, and a temporary rubber dam should be constructed immediately near Medigadda and the pumps should be be put into operation,” he said.
