Govt at war with its own children, says Singla

Bathinda: Punjab Congress functionary and ex-MP Vijay Inder Singla has launched a sharp attack on the Union govt over the nationwide NEET paper-leak crisis and the police action against protesting students and opposition leaders. Participating in Chhatron Ki Goonj programme at Bathinda on Wednesday, Singla reaffirmed the Congress party’s commitment to keep on standing firmly behind students across the nation. Singla said the soil of Punjab has always taught people to raise their voice against injustice.Condemning the police action using lathis and teargas shells against young students, he questioned the response of the Union Govt, criticising it for attempting to silence student voices through force instead of fixing responsibility for the systemic failure of the education system and the National Testing Agency (NTA).While speaking to mediapersons, he highlighted the events surrounding the protest march, where opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge and Akhilesh Yadav, held peaceful protest at Prime Minister’s residence to raise the grievances of students.Singla condemned the police high-handedness and the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other leaders, and stated that as leader of the opposition representing 56% of the country’s vote, suppressing his voice and detaining him in a police stadium shows an attempt to control democratic platforms.MSID: 132557828 413 |
