Ahmedabad: Recruitment processes across several state varsities, including Gujarat University, have been stalled for nearly six months due to the absence of formal govt approval. The hiring drive was launched in late Dec following state directives to fill sanctioned posts before the implementation of a new pay commission.At Gujarat University, recruitment was initiated for 141 posts, including positions reserved for persons with disabilities. These included key administrative roles such as registrar, chief accountant, estate officer and director of physical education, along with Class-3 posts like junior and senior clerks. Of the total, 119 vacancies, primarily for junior clerk positions, progressed through preliminary and main exams. However, the final results have not yet been declared due to the lack of an official approval letter from the govt.While recruitment for 4 to 5 senior posts had to be cancelled due to a lack of suitable candidates, the process for over 100 remaining positions is currently on hold.University authorities are exercising caution, citing a past incident in which 167 employees were appointed without govt approval, leading to a prolonged legal and financial dispute lasting 25 years. Determined to avoid a repeat, officials have stated that no appointment letters will be issued until formal clearance is received.
