Panaji: The ‘Goa Beyond Beaches’ Quiz competition, organised by Goa Tourism Development Corporation, witnessed participation of 45 teams from colleges across Goa, with students demonstrating knowledge about Goa’s culture, heritage, history, and traditions beyond its 105km coastline. GTDC will soon organise similar quiz competitions for the benefit of Goan students across the state, said GTDC chairperson Kedar Naik.“Goa is much more than beaches. It is our forts, our churches, temples, festivals, music and our people. I am proud to see our youth taking such keen interest in learning about the Goa beyond beaches. You are the true ambassadors who will take this story to the world. GTDC will soon organise similar quiz competitions for the benefit of Goan students across the state,” said Naik, while speaking at the prize distribution ceremony held at the Reis Magos fort.While the first prize went to G R Kare College of Law, Margao, Shrimati Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao, won the second place. Students from Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, took home the third prize, while Goa University’s history department, and College of Multidisciplinary Studies, Margao, won the fourth and fifth places respectively.GTDC managing director Kuldeep Arolkar and general manager Gavin Dias, said that the overwhelming response shows that our students are curious and proud of their heritage.GTDC deputy manager Deepak Narvekar said, “Goa Beyond Beaches is not just a quiz, it is a movement. I urge all students to explore the hidden gems of Goa and promote the hinterlands of Goa. When our youth become storytellers of Goa, the world will see the true spirit of our state.”Naguesh Sardesai was the Quiz Master.The winning teams were awarded cash prizes and trophies, while mementos were presented to all participating colleges.
