Ghaziabad: The district administration has linked the release of salaries to completion of ‘Ek Parivar Ek Pehchan’ or family ID registration, putting the pay of around 2,250 teachers on hold for non-compliance. Officials said the directive was issued during a meeting chaired by the district magistrate on July 28, following which departments were instructed to withhold salaries until the IDs are created.‘Ek Parivar Ek Pehchan’ is a unique 12-digit identity number assigned to households to create a unified database that automates delivery of welfare schemes, scholarships and pensions, while easing tracking of beneficiaries and streamlining scheme implementation across departments.District basic education officer said on July 22 all department in-charges had notified employees who had not registered. As per figures shared by the department, 30,894 employees have completed their family ID so far, while around 2,250 teachers are yet to do so.Ghaziabad District Teachers’ Association, led by Rajendra Kumar, said the decision to stop salaries was unfair. Kumar said that of the district’s total employees, roughly 66,625 have not yet completed their Family ID registration. “Instead of abruptly halting salaries, the administration should have given employees adequate time and opportunity to complete the process,” Kumar said.The association has demanded that the administration extend the deadline and address technical hurdles employees may be facing while applying for the family ID, rather than penalising them.
