Ghaziabad to get 100 EV charging stations across 20 junctions by year-end
GMC to install the charging stations to encourage residents to invest in electric vehicles

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is set to install 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across 20 locations in the city to encourage residents to invest EVs. Officials said EVs will help cut down the levels of pollution.According to an analysis by Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Ghaziabad was the most polluted city last winter. Particulate matter such as PM2.5 and PM10, driven heavily by the transport sector, road and construction dust, and industrial emissions, is a major pollutant. The state govt has outlined a series of measures for controlling road dust.Ghaziabad, spread across 210 sq km with a population of 30 lakh, has 386 industries and a road network of 2,774 km. The city recorded an average AQI of 227 in 2021, which improved to 176 in 2025, and has set a target of 163 for 2026. PM2.5 levels are targeted to fall from 85 in 2025 to 77 next year, while PM10 levels are expected to reduce from 175 to 158.“Keeping all of it in mind, we are in the process of creating 100 EV charging stations across the city before winter,” municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Malik said. Work is already underway at 13 junctions, including Rajendra Nagar, Bus Adda, Rajnagar Extension, Crossings Republik and Sai Upvan. The other locations are Hindon Crematorium, Akbarpur-Behrampur, Diamond flyover, Patel Nagar, GT Road, Govindpuram, Swarnjyantipuram, Taj Highway, Vivekanand rail overbridge, Ret Mandi and Rajnagar. Locations for at least seven junctions are being identified.According to RRO records, in Ghaziabad, over 70,000 e-vehicles are registered. This includes 39,415 e-rickshaws, 1,525 e-carts, 17,856 e-bikes, 7,143 electric three-wheelers, 4,578 electric four-wheelers and 59 electric buses.
