Ghaziabad govt school may get a dining hall, sports track

Ghaziabad: A Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Muradnagar has been flagged for improvements in basic infrastructure and student amenities following an inspection of its classrooms, hostel, kitchen and other facilities on Thursday.The inspection, carried out by the chief development officer of Ghaziabad, found the need for repairs and whitewashing of school walls, better lighting in classrooms and more regular maintenance of the RO drinking-water system. Authorities have also been asked to ensure timely replacement of RO filters and prominently record the date of the latest filter change on the school premises to facilitate monitoring.The school has also been directed to improve its facilities for sports and dining. A sports track is to be constructed to provide girls with better opportunities for physical activities, while a dining hall has been proposed to ensure students have adequate seating arrangements during meals.The inspection also brought the school’s use of contingency funds under scrutiny. Officials were instructed to maintain expenditure records, bills and vouchers systematically and obtain approval from the competent authority before spending the funds. Details of each expenditure are also required to be entered in the relevant register after payment.The school has been asked to use contingency funds for installing solar lighting equipment, with the aim of reducing electricity costs and allowing resources to be utilised for other requirements.The inspection was conducted at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Muradnagar, on October 1 by the Ghaziabad chief development officer, with the district basic education officer and other officials present.The directions also emphasised maintaining hygiene, safety and essential amenities at prescribed standards and ensuring that the residential school operates in accordance with govt norms.The inspection covered classrooms, hostel bedrooms, the kitchen and other facilities used by the students.
