Margao: Sanguem police have booked two GFP functionaries, among others, for allegedly confronting police personnel inside the Sanguem police station, after one of them, Meshu D’Costa, was summoned in connection with a complaint over the latching of the local PWD office. D’Costa is a member of GFP’s political affairs committee and also of the Sanguem Municipal Council, while Raut Dessai is the party’s joint secretary. Viraj Nagekar, an advocate, was also booked. They were booked under Section 132 (assault or use of criminal force against a public servant to deter them from discharging their duty), Section 221 (obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official functions), Section 351 (criminal intimidation), and Section 189 (unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Police said the assistant engineer at the PWD’s Sanguem office had lodged a complaint against D’Costa after he latched the office from outside on Tuesday. D’Costa was subsequently summoned to the police station to record his statement.However, D’Costa arrived at the station accompanied by three to four persons and allegedly began questioning the police aggressively over the move to summon him, police said. Some among the group charged at the police officers present, they added.D’Costa had latched onto the PWD office on Tuesday in protest against what he described as officials’ poor response to his queries during his visit. He said he had gone there seeking an explanation for delays and negligence in carrying out works, including filling potholes on the bridge at Nondulem and hotmixing of roads in the area.
