Gurgaon: Kalyan Singh Bainsla, accused of chasing and ramming a biker on Golf Course Road on Sunday, was allegedly returning from a club with his friends when the incident took place.Bainsla, along with his cousin and other friends, had gone to The Empire club in MGF Metropolitan mall on MG Road on Saturday, for which he had borrowed a Maruti Ciaz car from a friend. Police are yet to ascertain if the accused were drunk.Police said one Shrikant, an associate of the accused, was also in the car at the time of the incident. According to sources, co-accused Lavnish allegedly instigated Bainsla to chase the biker, Shivani Chauhan, and also allegedly abused her during the incident.Investigators said the accused followed her for around 2km. The accused had asked Chauhan to stop. When she did not and instead signalled the car driver to move away, the accused rammed her bike.Police took the two accused to the spot to reconstruct the sequence of events on Thursday, for which they had sought two days’ custody. A local court on Wednesday sent Bainsla and Lavnish to police custody till Friday.A five-member special investigation team (SIT), headed by ACP (crime and women), was constituted to probe the case. The SIT includes the station house officer of Sector 56 police station, Sohna crime branch in-charge, and two other police officers. Police have termed the incident a “murder bid.”In her statement to police on Tuesday, Chauhan said the driver made indecent gestures at her, chased her, and rammed her bike with intent to kill before fleeing. Video from her bike camera showed her Aprilia RS 457 being knocked down after the car repeatedly tried to get alongside her motorcycle, with her bike sliding across the road as traffic continued to pass. She also claimed four people were in the car.Based on her statement and the CCTV footage submitted, police added sections 78, 79 and 109(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — including the attempt-to-murder charge — to a case that was initially registered under sections 281 and 125 BNS against the then-unidentified driver.Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident after a video posted by the Instagram account ‘Rebelwheels_Sia’, showing the Ciaz and the motorcycle, went viral on Sept 14. Chauhan handed police a pen drive containing her CCTV footage, while investigators separately obtained GMDA and DLF camera footage from 6 am to 8 am on Sept 13, covering Golf Course Road and the Metro station area.Teams searched for Bainsla at his Palwal residence and other locations before arresting both men in Rajasthan on Sept 15. The white Ciaz allegedly used in the incident was seized after their arrest.
