Ahmedabad: In line with the New Education Policy (NEP), the Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) has initiated a accreditation process for govt, grant-in-aid, and private schools across the state. The evaluation will be conducted under the G-SQAAF (Gujarat School Quality Assessment and Accreditation Framework), combining online self-assessment and external evaluation.Approximately 51,000 schools will participate in the online self-assessment phase, scheduled from Aug 17-31. After this, nearly 33% of these schools — around 17,000 institutions — will undergo external evaluation to ensure credibility and transparency in the assessment process.Around 7,000 verifiers will be appointed. Eligible candidates, including active and retired officers and teachers from primary, secondary, higher secondary, and higher education sectors, can apply on the registration portal.This move comes after repeated complaints regarding the earlier evaluation system, which relied on Class 2 and Class 3 officials. The process was often criticised for being inconsistent and lacking rigour. Although school inspectors were later appointed, concerns persisted over their inefficiency and lack of accountability.The results of both self and external assessments will be declared after completion of the process.
