Noida: Nearly 100 residents of Gaur City 2 gathered on Sunday evening to hold a vigil for Twisha Sharma, whose family lives in the township. The residents gathered and marched with Twisha’s posters. The vigil, which lasted about an hour, ended at the Gaur City 2 16th Avenue temple, where a two-minute silence was observed in her memory. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma, and brother, Major Harshit Sharma, were also present.Twisha died in her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, and her mother-in-law, Giribala, and husband, Samarth Singh, have since been arrested for harassment.Madhukar Mishra, a neighbour of the Sharma family for nearly seven years who also attended Twisha’s wedding, said initial attempts to pass off her death as a suicide had angered many in the locality. “There was a lot of anger when the case was made to look like a suicide and her family had to struggle for justice. There’s hope now after the arrests,” he said.“After her death, her father is a broken and shattered man. Her mother still breaks down in tears. I still can’t imagine that she’s no more,” Mishra added.Another resident, Amarjeet Rathore, said Sunday’s gathering was a call for accountability and timely justice, not just in this case. “We stand in solidarity with her family,” he said.
