Gangster’s ₹40L land attached in Azamgarh

Varanasi: The Azamgarh Police and the revenue department on Thursday attached 340.2 square metres of land worth about Rs 40 lakh, allegedly purchased with illegal earnings by gangster Rajkumar Gaur, a resident of Revra Parvezpur under the Nizamabad police station area.The action was taken under Section 14(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act on the orders of the Azamgarh district magistrate. The land, located at Arazi No. 377 in Revra Parvezpur village, was taken into administrative possession after a formal public announcement through drum-beating, as required under legal procedure.Police said the action followed an investigation into a case registered under Sections 2(b)(1) and 3(1) of the UP Gangsters Act at Nizamabad police station. The probe found that Rajkumar was an active member of a criminal gang allegedly involved in making an objectionable video of a victim and using threats to make it viral to commit gang rape, assault and other offences, including those related to illegal weapons.According to police, Rajkumar and his gang used proceeds from criminal activities to purchase land and strengthen their illegal network. Revenue officials valued the attached property at approximately Rs 40 lakh.Investigators also found that since 2020, the accused had allegedly been purchasing and occupying nearby land using proceeds of crime. Police said no valid or sufficient source of income was found to justify the purchase of the property or the payment of loan instalments.
