Ahmedabad: Japanese firm Fujifilm has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat govt to study the feasibility of building a semiconductor materials manufacturing facility in Dholera.The city, primed to be India’s first ‘Semicon City’, already hosts a chip fabrication unit being built by Tata Electronics and Taiwan’s PSMC.Fujifilm plans to work with local agencies and industry partners to strengthen the domestic electronics supply chain.Localising these specialty chemical formulations is critical for India’s growing tech ecosystem. Demand for these fabrication materials is surging alongside rising investments in assembly units across the automotive, telecom, AI, and electronics sectors.Koji Wada, managing director of Fujifilm India, said that the agreement marks a key step in expanding the company’s advanced materials footprint here. Abhi Shekhar Singh, national head of strategy for the company’s Electronic Materials Division, added that the move aims to introduce their global technology directly to the Indian market.With over 20 production hubs worldwide, Fujifilm’s proposed Dholera project aligns with the Centre’s Make in India initiative to secure a resilient tech supply chain.
