Pune: A judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court on Thursday convicted and sentenced three accused for violating Supreme Court’s directions on the use of speakers during a procession in the city on Aug 26 this year.The order found the president and vice-president of a Lohiyanagar-based mandal and a sound system provider from Kolhapur guilty.Ahead of the said procession, Pune commissioner of police (CP) Amitesh Kumar had already issued directions on the use of loudspeakers and warned that action would be taken against violators of existing SC orders.Police said a high-powered sound system was used during the procession. Personnel from Khadak police station repeatedly instructed the organisers to reduce the volume, but the directions were allegedly ignored.The police subsequently registered a case against the trio under sections 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 292 (punishment for public nuisance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The Khadak police filed a chargesheet against the accused in court within 24 hours of registering the case.
