Bengaluru: A promise made to schoolchildren a year ago could finally become reality, with School Education and Literacy minister Madhu Bangarappa Saturday saying the govt is working to roll out free notebooks for students of govt and aided schools from current academic year. The announcement comes nearly a year after then chief minister Siddaramaiah promised on Teachers’ Day that students would receive notebooks free of cost in addition to textbooks. The proposal, however, remained on paper after failing to secure the finance department’s approval.Bangarappa said the govt is now making another push to revive the scheme and aims to implement it from this academic year, potentially easing the recurring cost of school supplies for thousands of families.
