Ahmedabad: The state’s Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) has warned of criminal action against self-financed technical institutions collecting fees beyond approved limits, while directing them to submit affidavits disclosing their complete fee structures by Nov 13.The move follows complaints from students and parents after the recent admission process, as well as media reports alleging that several colleges and universities were collecting additional amounts under various heads despite repeated warnings. The FRC found that some institutions were allegedly charging fees beyond those approved under Section 10(1) of the relevant Act. Such collections violate Sections 10(4) and 13(2) and constitute breaches of the committee’s fee orders, it clarified.Under a circular issued to the institutions, colleges must submit separate affidavits for each academic programme, mentioning the relevant FRC-T code.Institutions must disclose tuition fees and all other charges collected from students, including library, laboratory and computer fees, caution money and amounts collected under additional heads.Compliance with the fee structure approved for 2026-27 has been made mandatory. The FRC warned that false or misleading information in the affidavits would invite legal action against the heads of the institutions under the Act and applicable criminal laws.Students and others possessing documentary evidence of violations can approach the committee with supporting documents, the circular stated.
