Lucknow: An 804-metre section of planned 2,864-metre parallel taxi track was inaugurated at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Wednesday. The project is intended to cut runway occupancy time, speed up aircraft movement and reduce delays.Airport officials said the newly built stretch will be operational from Thursday midnight, enabling aircraft to vacate the runway faster and move more efficiently between the runway and other operational areas. The parallel taxi track is being developed in phases in coordination with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) as part of efforts to strengthen ground traffic management and improve overall operational efficiency. Officials said the upgrade is expected to support better on-time performance for airlines by easing bottlenecks during peak movements.Lucknow airport manages scheduled commercial operations along with general aviation and non-scheduled flights. It also functions as a key diversion airport for flights headed to Delhi, Varanasi and other destinations, especially during weather disruptions. The remaining portion of the taxi track is slated for inauguration by the end of March 2027. Once fully commissioned, the 2,864-metre facility is expected to reduce ground congestion and enhance the airport’s capacity to handle growing air traffic while maintaining safety standards.
