Bengaluru: In a crackdown on the illegal sale of scheduled drugs, Chamarajpet police have arrested four women in two separate operations for allegedly selling Tydol, an opioid painkiller tablet, without medical authorisation. These tablets, used to treat moderate-to-severe acute pain in adults, require a valid prescription for sale. The tablets are used as narcotic drugs by their users.Interestingly, the women started selling the tablets after their family members were caught by police a couple of months ago. This is said to be the first time Bengaluru cops have caught women selling these opioids.Two of the accused, Shobha A (37) and Baby Shalini (31), are residents of Bhangi Colony in Chamarajpet, while the remaining two, Shyamala (30) and Munni (50), are residents of Anandpura, Tipunagar. Both operations were carried out on June 18.On a tip-off that a couple of women were selling tablets to a group of youngsters on Mysuru Road, a police team rushed to the spot and caught the duo. The buyers fled on spotting the cops. Police allegedly recovered 30 Tydol tablets from the accused, Shobha and Shalini, who confessed to selling each tablet for Rs 200. Both were subsequently taken into custody.In a similar operation, the team found the other two women carrying 20 tablets concealed in a plastic cover. They too were found selling each tablet for Rs 200.During investigation, police found that the four women had taken precautionary measures, such as not using mobile phones to contact customers. “Since they were trained by their family members and guided on the locations where the tablets could be sold illegally to customers, the women would loiter around those locations and approach consumers using the code word Goli,” a senior officer said.
