Four months after wedding, Telangana man killed in Malta road accident

Hyderabad: Just about four months after getting married, a 27-year-old man from Telangana was killed in a road accident in Malta, Europe, on Tuesday. Mohammed Abdul Jawad, from Islampura in Jagtial district had travelled to Europe only three months ago to take up a job as a sales executive. While family members back home have only sketchy details about the fatal accident, local reports said Jawad was driving a small commercial vehicle when it collided with a trailer in Qormi around 11:45 am. He reportedly got trapped inside the vehicle and died on the spot. The trailer, reports stated, was being driven by a 39-year-old man from Tarxien.“The family is devastated and still in a state of shock. We don’t even know what exactly happened,” his distraught sister told TOI over the telephone from Jagtial, adding, “All we were told by his friends about the accident is that a truck and trailer collided and my brother died on the spot.”According to his sister, it was Jawad’s first job. “He completed his graduation earlier this year and was looking for work. After about six months of unsuccessfully searching here, he left for Malta,” the sister added. Jawad’s wife is still a student pursuing her Bachelor of Education (BEd).The family is also unsure why Jawad was driving a commercial vehicle when he had gone with a sales assistant’s job. “I got know that he had started driving a truck a few days ago. We don’t exactly know why,” said his brother-in-law M A Rashad.“Through our friends, we also spoke to Jawad’s employer who assured us that his mortal remains will be sent back to India. We are waiting for the formalities to be completed and hoping it will be sent from either tonight (Wednesday) or tomorrow (Thursday) morning,” he added. The family has also submitted a petition through Pravasi Prajavani to the Telangana govt, seeking help with the repatriation of his body. “Since we are facing financial difficulties, I request the govt to extend necessary assistance so that we can perform his last rites here with dignity,” said his father Mohammed Abdul Mujahid.Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala also urged the authorities concerned to intervene and expedite the release and repatriation of Jawad’s body. Apart from his wife Jawad is survived by his parents and two siblings.
