Hyderabad: Nearly four months after pipeline installation works were completed, a one-kilometre stretch of the Chintalakunta–Bairamalguda main road near LB Nagar remains in a damaged condition, causing daily inconvenience and posing a safety risk to thousands of commuters.The road, a key link between the Sagar Ring Road and the Vijayawada Highway, witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day.However, the stretch dug up for laying pipelines has not been restored, leaving behind potholes, loose gravel and an uneven surface.Residents of nearby Mallikarjuna Nagar and Jahangir Nagar said the damaged road has become a nightmare, particularly during peak hours. They alleged that several minor accidents involving two-wheelers have occurred in recent months as motorists struggle to navigate the uneven stretch.“I use this road every day to commute to work. We are forced to slow down suddenly because of the potholes, and vehicles behind us brake abruptly, increasing the risk of collisions. Even autorickshaws and other vehicles have suffered breakdowns after hitting the potholes,” said K Ramesh, a daily commuter.The road is also used by hundreds of students travelling to schools and colleges in the area.“Parents are worried every morning because school buses and two-wheelers carrying children have to pass through this damaged stretch. It is surprising that even four months after the pipeline work was completed, the road has not been restored,” said P Lakshmi, a resident of Mallikarjuna Nagar.Mohammed Saleem, a resident of Jahangir Nagar, said repeated complaints to civic authorities and elected representatives have failed to produce any results.“We understand that public utility works are necessary, but roads should be restored immediately after the work is completed. Leaving them damaged for months is unacceptable and puts people’s lives at risk,” he said.Residents have urged the authorities to immediately restore the road by levelling the damaged surface and relaying the affected stretch before another accident occurs.
