Four arrested for robbing MSRTC bus conductor of Rs 9,000 near Shirur

Pune: The Pune Rural police on Sunday arrested four men for allegedly robbing an MSRTC bus conductor of Rs 9,000 in the early hours of Friday on the Pune-Nagar highway near Shirur, around 70km from the city.A Shirur police team led by inspector Vinod Patil arrested Ajaykumar Chavan (24) and Sachin Gholap (22), both from Dighi, and Pavan Gholap (25) and Akash Kale (21), both from Alandi, after examining footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras in Pimpri Chinchwad, Shirur and Ahilyanagar district.A state transport bus driver lodged a police complaint in this regard.An officer from the Shirur police said around 2am on Friday, the complainant was driving the bus towards Shirur bus depot when an SUV blocked his way. “Four men got out of the SUV and started abusing him, claiming that the bus had brushed against their vehicle. They also demanded money for the damage allegedly caused by the bus,” he said.“The complainant refuted their claim and told them to come along with him to the depot, where the mechanics would check the bus. He also assured them that he would pay if there were any damages,” the officer said.The accused, however, did not listen to the driver and began beating him up. When the bus conductor came to the driver’s help, the accused assaulted him too and robbed him of Rs 9,000. “Before leaving the spot, the accused smashed the windscreen of the bus by pelting stones and took away the keys of the vehicle,” the officer said.Police have seized the SUV allegedly used in the crime.
