Foreign study loans: Gujarat raises income cap to Rs 10L for unreserved category

Slug: You read it here first: July 28, 2026Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt on Wednesday raised the annual family income ceiling for students from the unreserved category seeking financial assistance under its foreign study loan scheme from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, widening the eligibility net for those aspiring to pursue higher education abroad.The social justice and empowerment department issued a resolution on Wednesday approving the increase in the income limit under the scheme implemented by the Gujarat Unreserved Educational and Economic Development Corporation (GUEEDC).The revised income ceiling will be applicable from Aug 18, while all other provisions of the existing scheme will remain unchanged, the resolution said.The govt said the proposal to increase the annual family income limit was considered with the objective of enabling more students from the unreserved category to avail themselves of loan assistance for higher studies overseas.According to the resolution, the revised ceiling is expected to benefit many aspiring to pursue higher education abroad.The move comes amid growing demand among Gujarat students for overseas higher education and seeks to expand access to financial assistance for students whose family income was earlier above the Rs 6 lakh threshold but falls within the revised Rs 10 lakh limit.
