AMC plans RCC road on stretch recently asphalted near Makarba ROB
Projects to be inaugurated by Gujarat CM

Ahmedabad: In a case raising questions over planning in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) engineering department, a proposal to construct a reinforced cement concrete (RCC) road on the stretch recently developed with asphalt has been placed before the civic body’s road and building committee for approval. The Makarba railway overbridge (ROB), inaugurated in Sept, ends directly at an intersection, leading to frequent traffic congestion. To ease the problem, AMC widened the connecting road from Prahladnagar to SG Highway and developed it with asphalt. As of Oct 15, the road has already been widened and developed, although work on some sections was still under way.

However, a proposal to redevelop the same stretch as an RCC road has been included in the agenda of the road and building committee meeting scheduled for Oct 21, just six days later.In-charge city engineer Rishi Pandya said, “Following the work on the Makarba railway overbridge, a decision was taken to immediately widen the road. Accordingly, the road was developed through an annual rate contract vendor. Constructing a concrete or RCC road takes time, which could have led to traffic snarls. Therefore, to immediately resolve the traffic issue, the road was widened and developed. Necessary modifications will be made to this proposal.”Meanwhile, a proposal before the committee seeks approval for an annual rate contract worth Rs 136.6 crore for constructing asphalt and RCC roads across various parts of the city. The proposal includes redeveloping the stretch from Prahladnagar fire station to SG Highway as an RCC road.
