Shillong: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Jowai-Nartiang-Kdiap-Khanduli (JNKK) Road at Wahiajer Football Stadium in West Jaintia Hills on the second day of her visit to Meghalaya on Saturday.The road, funded by the New Development Bank at an estimated cost of over Rs 59 crore, aims to enhance connectivity, improve access to markets and essential services, and support local livelihoods.“Constructed at a cost of over Rs 65 crore with support from the Union finance ministry’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, this project reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s vision of all-round development through sustained capital investment, ensuring that modern infrastructure reaches every region and creates new opportunities for India’s youth,” Sitharaman said.“Established in 1967 and named after the revered Jaintia freedom fighter U Kiang Nangbah, the college has played an important role in advancing higher education and nurturing young talent in the Jaintia Hills region,” she said.CM Conrad K Sangma, expressing his gratitude to Sitharaman, said, “Always, we were deeply impressed by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman ji not only for visiting Meghalaya once again, but for the warmth and respect she showed towards our people and culture”.“Her thoughtful remarks in both Khasi and Garo, along with references to the works of our revered poet laureate U Soso Tham, resonated deeply with everyone present,” the CM said in reference to Sitharaman’s speech.
