What happened?Bengaluru’s flyovers are about to get a little more selective.From September 4, traffic police will introduce vehicle restrictions on five major flyovers and elevated corridors across the city, in a move aimed at improving road safety and easing congestion. The changes will affect the BOS flyover, Peenya elevated corridor, Double-Decker flyover and International Airport flyover, while restrictions on the Electronic City elevated corridor will kick in from September 11.The rules have sparked plenty of conversation among Bengalureans. While some commuters are welcoming the move in the hope of smoother and safer journeys, others are wondering if keeping certain vehicles off flyovers will really make a dent in the city’s larger traffic woes.The big question, of course, is whether these new rules will finally make the commute a little easier—or simply move Bengaluru’s traffic jams from one road to another.The new flyover rules:BGS flyover:Heavy goods vehicles will be prohibited. Light goods vehicles will not be allowed between 7 am and 11 am, and between 4 pm and 10 pm.Peenya elevated corridor: Passenger and goods autorickshaws will be completely prohibited. Heavy and medium goods vehicles will be restricted between 7 am and 11 am, and 4 pm and 10 pm.International Airport flyover: Two-wheelers and autorickshaws will be barred. All goods vehicles will face restrictions between 6 am and 10 pm.Double-Decker flyover: Heavy goods vehicles will be completely prohibited.Electronic City elevated corridor: Goods vehicles will be banned between 6 am and 10 pm.
